PART I: POSSESSIVE RELATIONS 

Acquisition. In the movie American Psycho, the main character, Patrick Bateman – a yuppie serial killer with a passion for brutality – is in a nightclub picking up girls with his corporate finance buddies. A girl asks him, ‘What do you do?’, and he replies honestly, ‘I’m in murders and executions.’ She can’t hear him properly over the loud music, assumes he’s said ‘mergers and acquisitions’, and continues to make small talk over drinks.
