Join Griffith Review Senior Editor Carody Culver in conversation with three authors featured in Griffith Review 72: States of Mind – Kate Cole-Adams, Neeraj Gill and Kyle Perry – to explore the power of dreams, the pull of the subconscious and the possibilities for reshaping our mental healthcare.
The evening will commence with a performance by poet and self-proclaimed mischief-maker Loki Liddle, whose work also appears in States of Mind.
Griffith Review 72 is a powerful combination of personal voices and expert opinion, showcasing deeply personal interrogations of discovery, resilience, loneliness, joy, grief, and our past and future selves.
About the panellists:
Kate Cole-Adams, a previous contributor to Griffith Review, is a Melbourne-based writer and journalist. Her 2017 book Anaesthesia: The Gift of Oblivion and the Mystery of Consciousness (Text) won the Mark and Evette Moran Nib Literary Award and was shortlisted for the 2018 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards (non-fiction) and Melbourne Prize Best Writing Award.
Neeraj S Gill is a psychiatrist and professor at the School of Medicine, Griffith University. He is an elected director on the board of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. He was awarded a Doctor of Public Health degree from the University of New South Wales in 2020, based on his doctoral thesis on human rights of people with mental disabilities.
Kyle Perry is based in Hobart. His first novel, The Bluffs, was published in 2020, and his second, The Deep, is due to be published later this year.
About the poet:
Loki Liddle is a Jabirr Jabirr man based on Yugambeh Country (Gold Coast). He is a musician, poet and a producer for Digi Youth Arts. Loki’s new short story was commissioned by Grace Lucas-Pennington as part of ‘Unsettling the Status Quo’, thanks to support from the Copyright Agency Cultural Fund.
