Michael Cooney is author of The Gillard Project (Penguin, 2015) and was speechwriter to Prime Minister Julia Gillard. He was senior adviser at the Australian National University’s HC Coombs Policy Forum, Crawford School of Public Policy, 2013–14, and is now general manager, public affairs, at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers.
