James Aird is of European and Yugambeh descent and spent the first twenty-eight years of his life on the Gold Coast. He dropped out of university shortly after high school and worked for a while as an apprentice carpenter and then tradesman. He returned to higher education and now lives in Logan and works in Brisbane as a lawyer.
