So many aspects of the world have been transformed by COVID-19 during 2020, its regions and its countries reset as distinct and disconnected places. But while this crisis has profoundly challenged the idea of Europe and Australia as interconnected and accessible, the ongoing exchange between these two continents will continue to evolve and reshape.
Join The European Exchange co-editor Natasha Cica and contributors Robyn Archer and Mat Schulz in conversation with Ashley Hay as they explore some of the links, legacies and intersections between that European north and this south – and the ongoing ways in which lives are lived, imagined and recovered across these two geographies.

Robyn Archer is a singer, writer, director, artistic director and public advocate of the arts. She is an exponent and a champion of music theatre and the classic European cabaret tradition, and is also known for her own writing, including political songs in the shows Pack of Women and Kold Komfort Kaffee. Her work has previously been published in Griffith Review 23, 36, 44 and 55.
Dr Natasha Cica is the founding director of Kapacity.org. She is a former CEO of Heide Museum of Modern Art, and established the Inglis Clark Centre at the University of Tasmania. Her publications include Pedder Dreaming (UQP, 2011), and she was co-editor Griffith Review 39: Tasmania – The Tipping Point. She is an honorary professor at the Australian National University.
Mat Schulz is a writer based in Krakow, Poland, and the artistic director of Unsound, an international festival of electronic and experimental music. He has published two novels with HarperCollins, received an AFI award for screenwriting and penned a radio play for the ABC’s Airplay.
