Michael Zavros


Michael Zavros works across painting, drawing, sculpture, photography and film. He has exhibited widely within Australia and internationally, and his work is held in the collections of most major museums within Australia. In 2023 QAGOMA staged a solo survey exhibition of Zavros’ work. In 2024 Zavros will show at MONA, Hobart, plus solo exhibitions at ART SG, Singapore, and Dunedin Public Art Gallery in New Zealand.

In ConversationI studied printmaking because in the mid-’90s there wasn’t so much exciting painting happening in QCA studios, but also because I really wanted to learn new processes for my undergrad and, like most artists, I’d always painted. Painting had fallen out of fashion, and everyone was making installation, then photography and film – the new digital world reigned supreme for a decade. Now it’s all about painting.
