After serving with the Pacific Islands Regiment in Papua New Guinea and The Australian Army Training Team in Vietnam, Greg Lockhart had an academic career.

He is author of Nation in Arms: the Origins of the People’s Army of Vietnam (Allen & Unwin, 1989) and The Minefield: an Australian Tragedy in Vietnam (Allen & Unwin, 2007).

He has also written on Vietnamese literature and his other books include The Light of the Capital: Three Modern Vietnamese Classics (Oxford University Press, 1996) translated from Vietnamese with his wife, Monique.

Other writings and translations have appeared in journals, including Overland, East Asian History, Heat, Griffith REVIEW, and the Australian Literary Review.
